Module 7 Overview:
This module introduces students to the basics of recording ERPs and how to cap participants for an Event Related Potential Study.
Units:
Recording ERPs
Overview: This unit introduces students to the basics of recording ERPs including what the active, reference and ground electrodes are and how to choose a reference along with topics such as impedances, skin potentials, amplifying and digitizing the signal.
Learning Goals:
- Identify sources of noise during recording and explain what you can do to obtain clean data
- Explain the difference between referencing online during recording vs. rereferencing offline, and why both are important.
- Select an appropriate reference for a component of interest
- Select an appropriate configuration of electrodes
- Explain what impedance is and how to reduce it
- Select an appropriate filter and sampling rate for recording.
